Things to do in Quarantine

Here is a list of 100+ things to do in lockdown. Hope you enjoy. 

1. Listen to a podcast. There are podcasts on almost every subject. You could choose something educational or something funny or a mix of both.
2. Attempt cross stitch. Whether you are new to cross stitch or experienced it is always satisfying to start a new project. If you are new a good place to start is with a simple pattern such as ones on this Facebook page and these ones on this blog. There are also some free patterns released by designers on the #bewellandstitch
3. Learn a few phrases in a new language. You could start by downloading a book from kindle or by using Duolingo. Perhaps even continue learning the language after the lockdown has ended.
4. Bake something. You could make chickpea brownies if you are lacking flour.
5. Read. Catch up on literary classics. This could include some Shakespeare or H.G. Wells. Read from your growing list of books to read or just read something entirely random.
6. Join a virtual choir. This could be through the Sofa Singers.
7. Live stream the Northern Lights or an animal at the zoo. Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you have to miss out on nature.
8. Hit the gym….in your living room. There are plenty of work out videos that do not require equipment. While you’re there you may as well do the Sally Squat challenge (to Flower by Moby). For this you squat for bring Sally down and hold till the songs says bring Sally up.
9. Cook something new. Maybe from those cans you never use in your cupboard.
10. Do some colouring. There are plenty of free colouring pages specially released for coronavirus by artists. You could even create your own. You could even download a colouring app.
11. Play Pictionary either online, against AI or with your family/Quarantine crew. ‘Quick, Draw!’ is free on the Google play store and is an experiment to see if a neural network can identify human doodles.
12. Talking of experiments take part in one. This could be collecting data for scientists through Zooniverse or by taking part in an online survey that is part of an experiment.
13. Take part in a virtual exhibit. This could be 'Faces of Frida' or a completely different one.
14. Paint. This could be paint by numbers or painting something completely original. This page is releasing paint by numbers gradually.
15. Meditate. This could be helped through the app headspace, a guided meditation perhaps from YouTube or individually.
16. Do things around the house that you have been putting off such as DIY or cleaning.
17. Do a puzzle. This could be a mental ones such as a riddle or a jigsaw or even an escape room. You can do escape rooms though Amazon Alexa or you can download them (paid) through lockpaperscissors. You could even run a murder mystery night. There are plenty on the Internet for free. You could also do a wordsearch, sudoko or a crossword.
18. Watch films. You could watch your favourite movie again, you could have a marvel movie marathon or you could even watch films you have been intending to watch.
19. Contact a friend. You could email, text, FaceTime or even write a letter. It is important to keep in contact in these difficult times.
20. Dance. You could listen to your favourite music and dance. You could learn a dance from TikTok.
21. Play a game. This could be a classic board game with your family. Cards either with friends or without. You could play a console game or via an app on your phone.
22. Listen to an audiobook. Some of the classics on audible are free for the lockdown.
23. Create a photobook either from photos you already have or online to print the lockdown is over.
24. Change your room around. This could be as simple as moving the furniture or repainting your room. You could also upcycle a piece of furniture by painting it or adding embellishments. You could even make some wall art with tape and a few different colours of paint.
25. Write a bucket list for when the lockdown finishes.
26. Have a pamper day. This could be as simple as painting your nails and having a general relax. You could even make your own face mask and have a bubble bath.
27. Start a YouTube channel and stream your talents or teach other people how to do things you’re good at.
28. Start a journal. This could be a bullet journal or a writing prompt journal.
29. Do some gardening. This could be weeding a garden you already have or planting some seeds/plants and watching them grow. You could have a competition with your family to see who can grow the tallest sunflower.
30. Knit or crochet something simple like a blanket or a scarf.
31. Volunteer virtually. There are several websites that can help connect you to virtual volunteering opportunities.
32. Try some new makeup looks or hairstyle looks.
33. Press some flowers.
34. Cut some paper snowflakes. You could experiment with designs.
35. Organise. Organise your wardrobe, your books, or your weird and wonderful collection.
36. Build a fort. Release your inner child.
37. Take part in an online scavenger hunt or just a scavenger hunt.
38. Try your hand at finger knitting.
39. Camp. Either in your living room or in the garden. You could bbq your food for the night and make some smores on the bbq.
40. Make bubble mixture from washing up liquid and blow bubbles.
41. Take a look at your existing budget and adapt it to save money.
42. Write. You could write a story or even a book and release it on amazon.
43. Make your own online business. This could be a digital service/product.
44. Make your own blog/website
45. Draw people on reddit on subreddits such as r/redditgetdrawn.
46. Make a movie.
47. Organise your digital life. This could be a social media friends list purge, file organise on your laptop or computer, or delete emails that are no longer relevant.

51. Make and fly a kite in your garden (if you have one).
52. Wash your car.
53. Make a rainbow to put in your window. It could be drawn, painted, cross stitched or any other way you can think of.

58. Make different designs of paper airplanes and see which one goes the furthest through s competition.
59. Stargaze.
60. Play catch or Frisbee in the garden.

62. Learn to whistle either the regular way or with a blade of grass from your garden.
63. Photography. Take some photos of objects around your house or in your garden in creative ways.
64. Make boats and see if the float in the sink or the bath.

66. Sing. Sing your favourite song or have a disney singalong. Maybe even have a karaoke night (you can find karaoke songs on YouTube).
67. Create a mood board or a Pinterest board.
68. Start an Instagram page for your pet.

70. Try to get flat in splits by stretching everyday.
71. Listen to new and different genres of music on YouTube.
72. Calligraphy because who doesn’t want super neat fancy handwriting?
73. Teach your dogs some new tricks.
74. Play charades either with the people you live with or via video link.
75. Ask Alexa some funny questions or find some games to play on Alexa such as Guess the Song.
76. Take an onlibe class. This could be for personal progression or career progression.
77. Make your own pinwheel.
78. Make a time capsule. What would you want people from the future to see from the present?
79. Learn some magic tricks so you can boggle your friends after lockdown.
80. Tie die something. Give it a new lease of life.
81. Sew. Repair your clothes or create a completely new item of clothing.
82. Invent a code and practice it. Share it with your family.
83. Strengthen your brain by doing some brain training games on apps such as Luminosity.
84. Update your CV.
85. Plan something for after lockdown ends. It could be a trip or a party.
86. Learn how to tie a tie. If you can already do that learn how to tie a bowtie. If you’re already an expert at both learn some useful common knots.
87. Teach yourself the phonetic alphabet. So you don’t have to make ir up everytime you’re on the phone we all know you do it!
88. Learn how to give a proper massage whether it be foot massage or a shoulder massage.
89. Write online reviews for products you have recently bought but not reviewed.
90. Update your phone or laptop to the most recent update.
91. Ever wanted to officiate a wedding. You can get ordained online in all your free time.
92. Write a letter to your past self and your future self.
93. Research your family tree. There are free websites for this if you look hard enough. Another good source of information are your elderly relatives.
94. Learn and master juggling
95. Learn how to use chopsticks so you can look like a pro when you next eat out with your friends.
96. Make jewellery.
97. Play pen and pencil games such ss squares or noughts and crosses.
98. Take inventory of your belongings. This will be useful if they are ever needed for insurances purposes.

'The Cord' - Carol Ann Duffy Analysis

‘The Cord’ is at the back of the collection with the autobiographical poems but it could be said to be a transition poem as, similar to the start of the collection, it has a dark, fairytale-like quality. It alludes to Rumpelstiltskin through the “golden spinning wheel” in a similar way to how ‘The Diet’ alludes to Alice in Wonderland, with the protagonist becoming “the height of a thimble” and going on an adventure. This allusion to Rumplestiltskin could relate to the mother worrying about losing her child to their obsession with the cord. This theme of allusion to fairytales runs throughout the collection, although, not necessarily to specific fairytales as in this poem and more to the genre as a whole. Another way in which ‘The Cord’ has a fairytale-like feel is through its use of accentual verse with each line having three fixed stresses. 'A Healthy Meal' Analysis

'A Healthy Meal' questions the ethics of eating meat - a charged debate just as important now, if not more, as it was when the poem was written. It starts by setting the semantic field of food specifically the semantic field of meat. The depiction of the meat in the first two lines at first glance seems to have positive connotations which juxtaposes with the rest of the poem which has very true but negative connotations of meat. Harsh consonance is used with the letter 'c' in the second stanza with words just as "chatter", "capped" and "claret" to add emphasis on the harsh reality for those animals. The most interesting word out of these three is "claret" as it has two denotations one being blood the other being wine. This is particularly interesting as it links the idea of suffering to even to the wine which has no animal content. This may be because wine is generally paired with meat to enhance flavour.
